Strokers 2, the newest billiard room in Tampa, FL, hosted the June 28-29 Viking cue 9-ball Tour events. A total of 85 players, including 18 junior and women players and 21 league players, participated, with Ronnie Wiseman taking first in the open division and Bill Moses claiming the amateur.

The tour’s open division field of 41 players included a strong pro and top regional player contingent, with the likes of Shawn “Big Bubba” Putnam, Wiseman, Cory Deuel, Tony Crosby, Sparky Ferrell, and WPBA player Tracie Hines participating. Strokers 2 provided a great tournament atmosphere for all the players and spectators, and all enjoyed the 23 nine-foot tables.

Wiseman began his trek to the finals by defeating James Roberts 9-7, Leslee Davis 9-1, Rodel Morados 9-6, Bobby Livrago 9-8, Justin Hall 9-5, and then Deuel in the hot seat match 9-6. Deuel was faced with Crosby in the semifinals and ended up running the final seven racks of the match to earn a rematch against Wiseman in the finals. Deuel claimed the first set 9-7, but in the true double-elimination format, the players went neck and neck in the second set until Wiseman moved ahead to take the match 9-6.
The amateur division comprised 44 players, including local favorites such as Neil “Murphy” Young, Ted Lepak, Jose Ybarra, and Jeremy Bell. Moses drew a bye in round one and then defeated Emily Wilmoth 5-0 and Trey Jankowski 5-2 before losing to Scott Howard 5-4. On the one-loss side he fought his way back to the finals, eliminating Jesse Langston 5-3, Justin Stocks 5-2, Kim Dyer 5-3, and Ybarra 5-3 to reach the finals. There he faced down Jonathon Demet and was victorious in the first set 5-3 and then won hill-hill in the second 5-4.

In a stop on the Viking cue Open 9-ball Tour that almost didn’t happen, Stoney Stone worked his way undefeated through a field of 27 billiard entrants to face Shannon Murphy in the finals. Thanks to Viking Cues, which provided a majority of the funding that allowed the event to go on, and a deal struck by the venue with its’ lease holders, the $1,500-added event was held the May 17-18 weekend at Michael’s Billiards in Fairfield, OH.
Early Sunday, Stone was among four players still left on the winners’ side of the bracket. He faced Jamie McWhorter, as Mike Cantrell squared off against Joe Brown. After two hard-fought matches in which Stone defeated McWhorter 9-6 and Cantrell knocked off Brown 9-7, Stone and Cantrell advanced to the hot seat match. Stone wasted no time sending Cantrell west with a commanding 9-2 victory.
Shannon Murphy and Shawn Putnam dropped Justin Daniels and Lykins into the seventh-place slot and turned to face Jamie McWhorter and Joe Brown, just over from the winners’ side. Murphy and Putnam continued their advance, moving into the quarterfinal match, won by Murphy 9-4.
Murphy duplicated that score in the semifinal match against Cantrell before moving into the true double-elimination finals against Stone. Stone defeated Murphy in the first set 9-6, capturing the first-place prize.

John Stallings showed why he is considered one of the top league players in the area with his undefeated run on the Viking cue Open 9-ball Tour’s May 10-11 stop, while Billy Holmes took first in the amateur division. This stop was hosted by Weekend’s Pub in Goose Creek, SC.
Earlier on Sunday, Stallings sent the eventual fourth-place winner, Brian White, to the one-loss side, as well as Michael Basha and Biff Bowden, who ended up sharing fifth place, before facing Paul Durgin in the hot seat match. Stallings sent Durgin to the one-loss side with a 9-5 victory.
On the one-loss side, J.R. Rossman faced White in the quarterfinal match. Down 2-3 in the early going, Rossman rallied to win the next 7, allowing White to shoot only once in the match that put him on the hill at 8-3.
In the semifinals, Durgin put up a fight, but Rossman prevailed in a 9-5 victory. Stallings, who’d saved his best match for last, allowed Rossman only two racks to conclude his undefeated weekend.

Viking Billiards Tour Offers Health Insurance

Posted by admin as Billiard Tour News - Viking Cues 9 Ball Tour

Viking Billiards Tour Offers Health Insurance
Just about every day, a staff member at Viking Tour gets asked the following question: Do you have a health insurance program for player members or business associate members? Beginning this month, the answer is yes!
The Viking cue 9-ball Tour has just launched a new membership-only benefit: Viking Tour Health and Benefits Solutions. Through this new program, Viking Tour player members and business associate members across the country can take advantage of lower rates and broader benefits on comprehensive health insurance (individual or group), life insurance, long-term care, dental, disability, and critical illness. Health Benefits Professionals Association Health Programs of Overland Park, KS, has been retained to administer the program.
Under the program, many Viking Tour player members and business associate members will be able to take advantage of lower pricing and creative solutions in healthcare because of the high volume of business administered by Association Health Programs. With over 160 national associations, over 2.5 million members, 18 years providing associations with member benefits, and large blocks of business with the insurance carriers, this allows for Viking Tour members to realize savings up to 40% on their insurance needs. Accordingly, Viking Tour player members and business associate members will benefit by favorable underwriting practices and pricing because of the volume of business AHP does with major insurance carriers. This will aid our members initially and at renewal.
Viking Tour player members and business associate members who currently provide health insurance coverage for themselves or their employees should take a moment to compare their existing plan with one offered by the Viking cue 9-ball Tour Tour/AHP. Plus members who want to begin providing health insurance and other benefits should begin shopping with the Viking Tour.
Health insurance is available to the group or individuals within the companies of Viking Tour business associate members on a discriminatory or select basis. With this new program, your part-time and full-time employees can have access to coverage without ever losing their coverage, and employers can afford to provide access to their employees for health insurance.
In addition to health insurance, Viking Tour player members and business associate members should investigate the long-term care program. This offers our members access to every long-term care provider nationwide at up to 40% savings. Long-term care is the fastest-growing segment of the health insurance industry as average life expectancy lengthens and the cost of home care, assisted living, and nursing home care continues to escalate.
Our life insurance programs should benefit our members by savings and underwriting for risk while saving up to 20% off current and new policies. Disability income, critical illness, guaranteed issue limited medical plans for the uninsurable, dental and vision are just a few of the other benefits we can offer members.
