Tom D’Alfonso faced down Ron Casanzio to claim the April 27-28 stop on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour. The $1,500-added tournament was hosted by Fast Eddie’s Billiards Café in New Milford, CT, and attracted a field of 49 for the main event.

After routing Redgie Cutler 9-1 in the winners’ side final four, D’Alfonso went on to the hot seat match, where he met Casanzio for the first time. Casanzio was just off a lopsided 9-2 win over Scott Ireland. The match between D’Alfonso and Casanzio was a close one, though, with Casanzio claiming the narrow 9-7 win.

Nelson Oliveira was making his move through the one-loss side, eliminating Travis McKinney in seventh place 9-7 and then going on to best Cutler 9-6, sending him home in fifth. Mike Dechaine tied with McKinney after Jeremy Sossei won their double-hill match 9-8, but Sossei was sent home in the following round by Ireland, again hill-hill.

Oliveira ousted Ireland in fourth place with a 9-6 victory and then went on to face the determined D’Alfonso, who raced through their match to take it 9-4. In the double-elimination finals against Casanzio, D’Alfonso was able to notch a close 9-7 victory in the first set, but in the second set he had the title in his sights and took the win 9-2.

In the 18-player second chance event, Eric Tang took home first place and the $300 prize, going undefeated in the finals over Bill Cote, who collected $210 for second. In third, Bob Vanduzee won $150, while Brent Boemmels earned $100 for fourth. Vinny Zuniga and Steve Mack each took home $50 for their fifth-place finish.

The next Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour stop will be at Snookers Billiards Bar and Grill in Providence, RI, the weekend of June 1-2. Also, if you have not yet reserved your spot at the $25,000-added Turning Stone Classic XXI September 19-22, please call Mike Zuglan immediately at 518-356-7163 to avoid being shut out of this event.
