Shaw Shows up Joss Billiards Field
Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / West Hempstead, NY
Jayson Shaw dominated the April 20-21 stop of the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, defeating one of the tour’s top players, Jeremy Sossei, in the finals for top honors. The $1,500-added open event was held at Raxx Pool Room and Grill in West Hempstead, NY, and drew a field of 28.
Shaw, originally from Scotland, has been spending some time in the States lately terrorizing anyone he comes up against. In the winners’ side, Shaw dealt Michael Yednak a 9-3 loss to advance to the hot seat match. Meeting him there was Tom D’Alfonso, who had just sent Mike “Fireball” Dechaine to the one-loss side 9-7. In another lopsided win, Shaw defeated D’Alfonso 9-3 and awaited a finals opponent.
On the west side, Nelson Oliveira sent Holden Chin home in a seventh-place tie 9-3, while Sossei did the same to Mhet Vergara 9-6. Oliveira then ousted Yednak in fifth place 9-5, as Dechaine was eliminated in the same slot by Sossei, also 9-5.
Sossei then routed Oliveira in the quarterfinal match 9-2 and advanced to face down D’Alfonso in the semifinals 9-6. In the double-elimination final match, Sossei won the first set against Shaw 9-5, but in the second Shaw was back in top form and took the set and title 9-7.
Dave Shlemperis won back-to-back sets in the finals of the $500-added second chance event to take first place and $300, with Brent Boemmels taking second place and $200. Ray Lee won $100 for third place, and Vikram Dasari earned $60 for fourth. Scott Murphy and Alvin Thomas each took home $20 for fifth place.
The Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour’s next event will be held April 27-28 at Fast Eddie’s Billiards Café in New Milford, CT. Also, the Turning Stone Classic XXI field is filling up quickly!
