The Ultimate 10-Ball Championships have wound down for the day, with two of the top names in the game—Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer—to meet at high noon Saturday. This is Day One in the three-day, $50,000-added annual event, which is hosted by the Embassy Suites Hotel.

In the 2 p.m. round, Corey “The Prince of Pool” Deuel went hill-hill with bar box player John Gabriel of Oklahoma and ended up with an early trip to the one-loss side of the chart 8-7. Oscar “The Big O” also had a long fight in his match against Armando Canales, which ended in Dominguez’ favor 8-6. And CJ Wiley, another Texas player, eked out an 8-7 win over Jeremy Sossei.

The Ultimate 10-Ball Championships have wound down for the day, with two of the top names in the game— Strickland and Archer—to meet at high noon Saturday.

On the flip side, Canada’s Jason Klatt was down 4-1 to Ruben Bautista and came back to win their match 8-4. Alex Pagulayan roared through his match against Kenneth Rowell 8-1 and will play Shane Manaole of San Diego in the next round. “Mad Max” Eberle had little troubles in his match against Roger Griffis, whom he defeated handily 8-3. Former world 9-ball champion Thorsten Hohmann flew through his match against Doug Young 8-3, and Tommy Tokoph bested Badi Nazhat 8-2.

Kyoko Sone and Erin McManus had a hill-hill bout in the 2 p.m. round, with Sone coming out the 7-6 victor. Kim White triumphed over Amanda Lampert 7-6, and Line Kjorsvik of Norway edged out Chris Fields with a narrow 7-5 margin.

In the later afternoon round, Archer was first through with a searing 8-2 win over Michael Wilson, and Mike Davis was soon to follow with his own 8-2 victory over Joel Barnes. Mike Dechaine and Shane Van Boening both won their matches 8-1 over Curtis Cardwell and Richard Burns, respectively. Strickland defeated Bill Anderson 8-3 and will face off against Archer at 12 p.m. Saturday.

More blowouts continued into the later rounds, with Oscar Dominguez dominating Larry Phlegar 8-2, Alex Pagulayan routing Shane Manaole 8-1, Darren Appleton winning 8-1 over Paul Song of Atlanta, and Rodney Morris defeating Larry Nicholson 8-1.

In the women’s division, 16 players remain undefeated, including Kelly and Allison Fisher, Ming Ng, Line Kjorsvik, new mom Cristina De La Garza, and Melissa Little.
