Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour / Worcester, MA

by InsidePOOL Staff

A field of 25 players converged upon London Billiards in Worcester, MA, October 11 for the second stop of the season of the Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour. Many regular players were in attendance, but it was tour newcomer Nelson Oliviera who walked away with the first-place prize.

Oliviera worked his way through the top half of the winners’ bracket to meet up with tour regular Kevin Blackstock in the hot seat match. The score seesawed back and forth, with Oliviera coming out on top in the end 4-2. Steve Kang had made his way through the one-loss side to meet up with Blackstock for a chance to earn a spot in the race-to-5 finals. Kang was also sent west earlier by Blackstock in a close match, so he was looking to avenge that earlier loss. The semifinal match went hill-hill, with Blackstock coming out on top once again after Kang hung a 9 ball during a smooth run-out in the final rack.

Oliviera got out to an early 2-0 lead on Blackstock and seemed to be cruising to the win, but Blackstock was determined to make his way back into this match. He was on a beautiful run-out until suddenly the 8 ball hung in the corner. This allowed Oliviera to easily take the lead 3-0. The next rack saw Blackstock have chances to try and climb back into the match, but it was not to be. Oliviera went on to the winners’ circle with a 5-0 win.
