by InsidePOOL Staff

The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour visited Burrkat’s Billiards in Monroe, NC, for Labor Day weekend. The event kicked off on Saturday as players from around the region rolled into North Carolina to take their shot at the $2,500-added prize fund in the amateur-advanced division, which was won by Brian White, as Josh Newman took home first place in the amateur event.

White took first after he worked his way through the bottom of the chart undefeated to the finals, sending Cheri Harrison 9-2, Kenneth Kostszyci 9-3, Josh Heeter 9-2, and Holly Sholes 9-2 to the one-loss side before facing B.J. Ussery in the finals of the winners’ side brackets. After a 9-4 defeat at the hands of White, Ussery ousted Jeff Abernathy 9-6 in the semifinals to earn a rematch with White in the finals.

Ussery took an early two-rack lead in the final match, but White made a comeback to tie the score 2-2. Undaunted, Ussery reached a three-game lead, but White countered by winning the next six racks in a row to make it 8-6 in his favor. At that point Ussery forfeited the match to White, giving White the win 8-6.
